Healing in general?

Okay so kinda "new" to the game, fiddled around with it before but not much.

I've seen some discussion on this but, are healers actually needed in the game, or is it more "Kill it before it kills the party" type of setup?

If it's the former, are Ecaflip's good at healing or not really?
